Job Description
Purpose:
The Parts Counterperson sells, at retail, parts to all available customers, over the counter, through the shop, or on the phone.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist walk-in customers in selecting required parts, suggest companion requirements, offer specials, and ensure exposure to the full product line.
- Pull purchases from stock, determine availability, and submit emergency orders as requested by customers.
- Answer phone calls, provide price quotes and information, and assist outside sales representatives with their orders.
- Set up orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pick up.
- Verify "will call" and "back order" files weekly; return items to vendors or stock as appropriate and solicit assigned accounts by phone.
- Assist service technicians in selecting parts needed for repairs and open repair order envelopes for new orders.
- Order parts not in stock after discussion with Shop Foremen to ensure parts will be used upon receipt or customer will return for repairs.
- Process all parts charges, returns, and credits, ensuring proper documentation, approvals, and customer payments including cash accounts, credit cards, and tax-exempt sales.
- Replenish assigned inventory daily and maintain clean, organized counter areas; advise Parts Manager of departmental concerns.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures; immediately report any accidents to a manager or supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in an automotive parts department.
- One year of sales experience.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate information clearly.
- Professional personal appearance and willingness to wear a dealership uniform.
- Strong customer service skills with ability to manage multiple customers simultaneously.
- Authorization to work in the USA and valid driver's license.
