Job Description

Job Summary:

The Payroll Analyst III will work in the Sonic Shared Services Center and be responsible for daily operational tasks relating to the payroll GL and payroll audit of Semi-monthly , Biweekly and Weekly payrolls for Sonic Automotive and EchoPark teammates. This position may also be responsible for project work and/or payroll tax work as deemed appropriate by the Payroll Management Team.

Responsibilities include:

GL Reconciliation-Reconcile payroll related accounts to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy before posting 

Journal Entries & Accruals- Prepare ,analyze and submit timely journal entries and accruals for payroll, month-end/year-end closing procedures, identifying and resolving anomalies in payroll data

Audit Support- Maintain payroll records and documentation to ensure compliance with internal controls and external audit requirements

Operational support- Partner with Payroll IS to resolve data discrepancies and provide ongoing support for Payroll operations Assist with functional testings with UKG, including regular maintenance , upgrades and patches to ensure system integrity

Execute SOPs relating to Payroll operations and all related activities including any applicable reconciliations.

Execute Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliant processes, procedures, and controls for all payroll-related processes.

Build relationships with internal partners (human resources, finance, benefits, and operations) to ensure SLA’s/expectations are being met and to identify opportunities to streamline and improve processes.

Play a leading role in all payroll related projects.

Work to establish payroll best practices, including automation of manual processes.

Develop new or modify existing policies to increase productivity and optimize efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's or Associate degree is highly desirable or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with a CPP.  Candidates must be intermediate in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Candidates must have excellent communication skills. 

 

Desired Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years experience in payroll processing. Candidates should have experience in administering payroll which includes in depth research skills and knowledge.  Candidates should have thorough knowledge of payroll "best-in- industry" practices.  Candidate should have a thorough knowledge of how payroll feeds to the financial statements.   This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, and an ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organization. Candidates must be detail oriented, results oriented, and have an ability to think strategically.
