Job Description

Sonic Automotive is a Fortune 500 company and is one of the largest automotive retailers in the United States. Sonic Automotive operates in 15 states, is comprised of over 100 dealerships, and represents 29 different brands of automobiles. These dealerships provide numerous services, including sales of new and used cars; sales of replacement parts; vehicle maintenance, warranty, paint, and collision-repair services; and arrangement of extended-warranty, financing, and insurance contracts for the company's customers.   Purpose: The Staff Accountant is responsible for the handling of accounting transactions; balancing inter-company accounts; preparing journal entries; performing account analysis; accrual calculations; assisting in the monthly closing process for various companies.   Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparation, posting and filing of journal entries to record accounting data including: bank activity - ACH and wire transactions; prepaid and other items as required to facilitate a complete and accurate closing of books maintained on ADP software.  Performs bank reconciliations and assists in preparing month-end analysis schedules. Cross trains to provide backup for various accounting tasks in the department.  Perform accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required at the direction of the Controller or Divisi9onal Corporate Controller.  
Requirements:  
  • Previous automotive accounting preferred and accounting software experience (CDK preferred)
  • A working knowledge of complete accounting cycle.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - will be dealing with store & regional controllers and various corporate department employees.
  • Good organizational skills and a positive attitude dedicated toward achieving results.
  • Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done and meet various deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.  Strong attention to detail.

  • All applicants  must be able to demonstrate ability to pass pre-employment testing to include background checks, MVR, drug test, credit report and valid drivers license.
  • All applicants must perform duties and responsibilities in a safe manner.
Desired Experience:

  • Experience with ADP financial software and accounting system, and bank cash management software.
  • Working knowledge of dealership financial statements.
  • Experience working in a multiple-entity environment.
