Job Summary:
The Strategic Sourcing Manager must be an effective change agent, playing the role of the educator while directing the acquisition activities of the business in a proactive and strategic way. The skills to influence and drive change, combined with the drive to deliver results per the goals set, will enable this individual to support the rapid evolution of digital business.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager position is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, implementing, and managing national level suppliers and contract support. The position will work with internal stakeholders and suppliers to find creative solutions to fulfill business needs, solve any issues which arise, and to expand relationships with strategic business partners. In addition to managing the sourcing process, the Strategic Sourcing Manager actively looks for efficiencies, conducts spend analysis, and builds compliance through effective stakeholder management. 

The Strategic Sourcing Manager responsibilities will also include sourcing travel, managing the Corporate Travel Program, and acting as the admin for the Concur Travel tool for Sonic Automotive. This includes being the point of contact for Concur Travel training and questions.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager is also responsible for procurement and contracting responsibilities for our Eastern Region consisting of 47 dealerships.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager position reports to the most senior-level authority of procurement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Consolidate and formalize spend habits to align with organizational goals; ensuring compliance and success of new programs through dealership support and continuous process improvement.
  • Baseline and analyze spend data for use in validation and negotiation of all spend categories.
  • Review and negotiate contracts to align pricing, terms, and conditions with organizational goals and strategies. Manage national contracts and suppliers through periodic performance reviews; monitor cost savings, contract compliance and performance measurements
  • Hold regularly scheduled department alignment meetings with key internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other senior executives, such as the President, CFO, EVP Operations, General Counsel, and Corporate Controller.
  • Lead the execution for all phases of the strategic sourcing process (collect stakeholder needs, plan and administer events, evaluate responses, negotiate contract, and provide support during agreement)
  • Develop the IT procurement strategy that is aligned with the overall corporate IT and business strategy priorities, and translate corporate IT and business imperatives into IT procurement targets
  • Lay out a technology procurement automation and analytics agenda to drive and prove value creation.
  • Support the development of data-centric skills, such as data analytics, data visualization and data presentation.
  • Have knowledge and experience with the tools required to capture relevant data and information.
  • Monitor and support key strategic technology supplier relationships, including contract and conflict resolution.
  • Seek alternate and innovative solutions to business challenges
  • Shows continuous effort to improve and streamline procurement processes and activities.
  • 20-25% travel required

  • Bachelor’s degree from 4-year college or university; emphasis in supply chain management preferred
  • A proven self-starter
  • 5 years’ indirect services procurement experience.
  • Understanding of basic procurement principles and processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of basic contract terms and conditions.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and decision-making skills required.
  • Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfort interacting with both internal and external senior leaders
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and presentation skills at the senior executive level
  • Experience working with, presenting to, and leading discussions through all levels of the organization; including the CEO, CFO, President, and Board of Directors.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects without losing sight of individual details.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities; including the management of large, uncleansed spend out of ERP systems.

Desired Experience:

6 years procurement and/or supply chain experience
  • CPSM or similar certification
  • Procure to Pay system experience
  • Consulting experience preferred
